9 Absolutely Happening Party Spots In Malta Which Aren’t Paceville

Article Featured Image

Paceville is dead. At least that’s what a lot of locals will tell you. We are a nation of party animals who find every excuse to get the party going and be as loud as humanly possible, and the same old haunts might not still cut it for everyone.

Seeing as summer is in full swing and there’s really no excuse to not go out and have the time of your life, here are nine alternative party spots around the Maltese islands.

1. Valletta

The OG nightlife city of Malta is getting revamped into an upmarket and jazzy alternative to Paceville. It’s cleaner, nicer, and totally made for grown-ups. It also feels like new spots are popping up on a weekly basis, so there’s always something fresh to do and experience. Most of the places there are also revamped old bars, which is amazing.

Apart from Strait Street there’s also a ridiculous number of bars all over the city; bar hopping anyone?

2. Uno Village

One of the largest open air clubs in Malta is still going very strong. There’s four bars, alternative spaces to other events and a chill-out area. The music genres at the place vary according to days and crowds.

Uno Village is a surreal space which will make you feel like you were transported to a ‘00s Miami, but with way more stairs and palm trees.

And hey, there’s also Club L.A.X. and Club Miami in this larger-than-life venue; proving our Miami point.

3. Zion Reggae Bar

This south hangout only opens in summer, but when it does, it absolutely takes over the area. It’s technically a Reggae Bar, but every day is different music genre day, so you don’t have to listen to reggae constantly. Thursday, for example, sees the bar hosts electronic nights that can go well into the night.

Apart from delicious cocktails and a warm atmosphere, Zion also has great food with great vegetarian options.

4. Gianpula Village

Gianpula is one of those giant ass venues which have both an indoor and outdoor space. It’s also got a rooftop area and a couple of festival arenas — nine different venues all in one spot, to be exact.

The Gianpula Main Room is a converted farmhouse with a whopping seven bars. There’s also the open-air fields, a penthouse, a rooftop area and a jungle-themed area. There’s like at least five other areas but seriously; just go and see for yourself.

5. Avalon

This cut-off club in Ħal Far is one of the newest clubbing destinations on the island.

Like the ones mentioned before, Avalon is also made up of different sections which can either be used as one or separate venues. There’s also an outdoor pool area where you can get some well deserved downtime from being a drunk mess.

6. Aria Complex

Known as a “stylish solution” to clubbing, this San Ġwann arena is considered as one of the most versatile venues on the island.

It’s made up of four different spaces, but when the timing and the event is right, transforms into one massive arena that hosts some very big international names.

7. Liquid Club

The messy mother of the Maltese party scene.

The Liquid building has been up and running as a nightclub since the early 70s, under different names like Vibes.

It’s survived countless ages, fads, scenes and styles throughout the years. The veteran of Maltese partying has been giving this island happiness and blues cures for decades, easily cementing itself as the Maltese hub of techno and underground electronic genres.

8. La Grotta

La Grotta is one of Gozo’s largest clubs and it overlooks the beautiful Xlendi Bay. What makes the Grotta truly special is the view, with many people calling it one of the most beautiful nightclubs in the world.

As you might already tell by its name, La Grotta is a literal cave. It has both an indoor and outdoor area and it generally only opens during summer.

9. Funky Monkey

This bar in Gzira offers mostly live music and great drinks. It’s set on Manuel Island and it’s a laid back place where gigs are regularly organised.

The environment at the Funky Monkey can be both extravagantly wild and laid back AF, depending on what’s on that particular night. The good thing, though, is that there’s always something on.
