9 Events Around Malta To Get You In The Holiday Spirit This Weekend

Article Featured Image

The weekend is always a wonderful event in itself; I mean, after a stressful week of work/school, Friday night through to Sunday just sounds heavenly. But this weekend is 10 times better, because it’s officially the last one before Christmas! And you better bet that there’s going to be a lot going on over these glorious three days…

So much so that you’re probably getting just a tiny bit overwhelmed at all the events popping up on your newsfeed.

That’s why we’ve enveloped the top nine events taking place between tonight and next Sunday. And let me just say, you are most definitely spoiled for choice!

Friday 20th December

1. Fashion and booze with Luke Azzopardi

If you still need to get some last minute Christmas shopping done, then consider visiting Luke Azzopardi’s pop up store tonight for an evening of shopping featuring complimentary drinks. The store’s opening hours will be extended ’till 10:30pm for tonight, so you have plenty of time to head over there after dinner.

2. GrooveBox is back

GrooveBox’s next event is taking place tonight, and this time the party will be raving with beats stemming from Black Loops, among other DJs. The party will be happening over at Liquid Club in San Ġwann, so be sure to head over there if you’re in the mood for a night of music and just all around good vibes.

Saturday 21st December

3. A green Christmas market’s landing in Valletta

An ‘ethical and sustainable’ Christmas market – Eco Christmas – will be opening it’s doors to the public tomorrow, and it will be open until the end of the weekend. There will be stalls for everything from books to toys and even artwork, as well as some delicious Vegan snacks you can munch on while strolling through the eco-friendly market.

4. The Force will be strong with Eden Cinemas this weekend

A saga four decades in the making is finally coming to an end just in time for Christmas, and it’s promising to be geek Nirvana.

For all you Star Wars fans out there, Eden Cinemas is the place to be over the next couple of days. The opening weekend for ‘The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ has arrived and Eden is going all out for the occasion. They will be hosting a Cosplay event fully equipped with a red carpet for the ultimate photo op – so all you’ve gotta do is dress up and show up (after buying your tickets, of course).

5. Christmas vibes in Gozo with Red Electrick

If you need an excuse to head over to the sister island this weekend, let The GUG Grand Annual Christmas Ball be that excuse. This year, the Gozitan student organisation will be holding their annual Christmas Ball at Ta’ Mena Estate, with none other than Red Electrick as the official band of the evening. A line up of DJs will also be entertaining your eardrums on the night, including LMA winners Ziggy and Micimago.

So suit up and grab some tickets because you do not want to miss this event!

6. The holiday disco of the year is here

Frisco Disco is back for yet another year of disco awesomeness, and they’re promising to be back bigger and better than ever!

You can even be in for some cool ‘disco perks’ if you show up dressed in disco attire. So throw on those shades and your shiniest outfit and make sure you’re at Beachaven tomorrow night, because another notoriously sold out FD event is coming to Xemxija.

Sunday 22nd December

7. Panto season is here, ladies and gents

For anyone who loves a good show, Christmas time is synonymous with panto season! This Sunday, The Little Mermaid – The Panto Under the Sea‘s first show will be taking place at The Manoel Theatre in Valletta. This is the perfect event for the whole family to enjoy after a cosy Sunday lunch!

8. Santa Claus is coming to… Diar Il-Bniet

Round up all your kids/younger siblings/cousins – you get my drift – and take them to meet Santa at Dar Il-Bniet in Ħad-Dingli. While the little ones get to meet their jolly idol for free, you can have a look at their stalls while wrapping your cold hands ’round a cup of hot cocoa. Perfect way to get everyone in the Christmas spirit!

9. Live music to to help you wind down

By Sunday night, we tend to be bummed at the fact that the weekend is practically over. But this Sunday night, you can forget all about those upcoming Monday blues by heading on over to The Garage for an evening well-spent with roża and The Velts playing live. So if you find yourself not quite ready yet to say goodbye to the weekend, you know just what to do!
