Birżebbuga may have set their sights on the national record for the tallest Christmas tree (towering seven storeys over their town square), but Gozo’s little village of Għasri is not about to let that kill their Christmas spirit.
The village north-west of Victoria have their own giant christmas tree, climbing six whole storeys, and this tree is still alive. That’s right – Gozo has upped the game with a giant, photosynthesizing tree.
The parish decorated the tree ahead of a visit by the President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca last November, who officially opened the Christmas season and turning on the Christmas lights.
During the ceremony the village presented their collective donations to the President for the Malta Community Chest Fund.
Back on the larger island, Birżebbuġa is all set for their Milied fil-Pjazza event this weekend, where they will in turn be inaugurating their massive tree, and cementing their record for giant shrubbery.
