With July – and summer – well underway, Malta is set to get very busy very quickly. And while events will slowly start popping up on any weekday, the weekend is always where it’s at.

If you find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed by all the things happening around the island in the coming days, here are eight weekend events to help get you started.

Friday 6th July

1. A two-night intimate gig by one of the island’s most critically acclaimed alternative bands

Everyone’s favourite heartstring-tugging outfit Brodu is returning for two intimate nights at Valletta’s Offbeat.

In between the venue’s limited capacity and the intense hype Brodu have been getting, both nights are sold out, but you can always check out the Facebook event and try to convince someone to sell their ticket on the eleventh hour.

2. One of the biggest weekly summer clubbing events returns for a night of classics

You’ll be hard-pressed finding someone in Malta who’s never heard of Sound Salon if they love dance music.

Now on their second week, SS return for a night of classics, featuring an intense eight-DJ lineup.

Saturday 7th July

3. A day party by the sea

An entire decade of clubbing later, it’s safe to say Perpendicular know a thing or two about organising a party.

And after last year’s successful 10-year-anniversary celebration, the Perp guys are back for a day by the sea at Xemxija’s Beachaven. Featuring MATO, Carl Lautier Nicky Slim and super-bros UJ / DV, the party starts at 3pm and it doesn’t stop till way after sunset.

4. A very long night straight out of the 00s

Remember when you’d catch the bus and listen to My Chemical Romance, David Guetta and Tiesto from your MP4? CLASS remember. They always do.

Returning to Tigullio for another night of nostalgia, Class of ’05 will see a soon-to-be-sold-out crowd through the best, worse and cringiest tunes of the Noughties.

Get that outfit you last wore to Paceville in 2007 out and get ready to belt the night away; things kick off early at 8:05pm and don’t stop until the early hours of the morning.

5. A reggae legend comes to Malta’s south

Whether it’s the music or our island’s climate, there’s something about reggae that still makes it one of Malta’s favourite genres. And it’s only getting better, thanks to a Jamaican heavyweight performing in Marsascala this weekend.

Rastafari singer and acclaimed artist Chezidek will be performing at Malta’s reggae hub Zion this Saturday, for a night of mad vibes and irie feels.

6. A penthouse party for Malta’s gay scene and beyond

Established promoters S2S Events will be hosting a trio of nights under the Summer Gay Events 2018 title, and they’re kicking things off in style with a penthouse party.

Taking to Gianpula’s rooftop, the night will see DJs Elton, Sue and Chris Goa throw down some of the phattest beats in town, and the event will also be hosted by the legendary KAKA.

7. Ziggy’s back

You can tell exactly what’s up by reading that, and that’s the power that Ziggy has had over the clubbing scene over the last couple of years.

Featuring Luc Adams, Nate’ and Nick C, Ziggy will be running you through some of the last decades’ best hits at Uno.

Sunday 8th July

8. A detoxifying rooftop party courtesy of Showers

If you thought the weekend would be over by Sunday morning, you’d be wrong.

The giant party animal that is Showers returns for a three-day festival this weekend, but for the fifth year running, it’s absolutely sold out.

Don’t worry though; you can still get your hands on tickets for the Sunday event, which sees Skybeach being transformed into one luxurious haven of pampering, sunbathing and swimming.

Along with some good music and even better company, there’s no better way to see the weekend off in style.
