Celebrate Jum Ir-Repubblika Like A Proper Maltese Patriot This Year With These Six Different Events
13th December is quite an important day for us, as explained in this other article over here. Totally understandable. This is our last public holiday of the year, not counting Christmas, so we kind of celebrate it in a super lavish and Maltese way. Obviously.
If you haven’t got any plans for this spacial day, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
1. Enjoy some local fireworks in style
The Grand Harbour will be hosting the annual hustle and bustle of fireworks which go hand in hand with any Maltese festa. This pyrotechnic show is an annual appointment on the island when it comes to Republic Day.
These fireworks can also be viewed from Marsa, Birgu, Kalkara, Isla and Bormla.
2. Hang out at St. George’s Square
Every year on Republic Day, St. George’s Square in Valletta hosts a number of activities which include architectural projections on The Palace’s facade.
Performances will also be held by both local and international artists including music, art, dance, military performances and acrobatics. The celebrations start at 8pm.
3. Take a trip down memory lane
Magna Żmien will be hosting another night of Kapsula Merill, Malta’s very own time machine.
The event will be held at Siġġiewi, where a collection of local memories will be relived along with performances by local artists.
4. Visit the Republic Day Monument
The monument in Marsa will also be a hub of activity today. This spot will be the home of celebrations as wreaths will be placed on the monument.
You can also view the Grand Harbour fireworks from the area. Total win-win.
5. Get an early taste of Christmas
The Valletta Waterfront will be hosting numerous Christmas activities on the day.
The Red Hackled Pipe Band will be performing in the area, so if you’re into military tattoos, head down to the area and enjoy some early Christmas cheer. Free children’s entertainment and a roaming Santa Claus will also be at the waterfront.
6. Stuff your face with local delicacies
Head to Żabbar to celebrate their Milied fil-Pjazza event. Local bands will be playing live as you stuff your face with food and candy. Amazing.
There will also be live cribs, Christmas cheer and light shows.
