Christmas Mode, On! The Sister Duo Is Back With A Multicultural Choir For The 2024 Chapel Hop
The New Victorians are back with the annual Chapel Hop, this time, with a difference.
The sister duo have been hopping from chapel to chapel, performing reimagined hymns and festive carols all around the island over the past few years.
Since its beginning, Chapel Hop has become a popular staple within the festive season calendar.
However, this year, sisters Philippa and Bettina, present the latest addition to their musical ensemble: a multicultural choir with voices from the Philippines, Ukraine and Nigeria.
Through a collaboration with the office of the Archbishop’s Delegate for Culture, this year’s project will see an immense growth, with the new performance taking over churches and even larger audiences.
“This edition of the Chapel Hop aims to transform the traditional church congregation into a more inclusive community,” the band said in an official statement, “By bridging the past and present, and blending the sacred with the secular, we hope to revitalise these heritage sites with music and collaboration, embracing the rich complexity of contemporary Maltese society.”
Chapel Hop will see performances from the 20-strong ensemble in churches around Santa Venera, Qrendi, Valletta and Żebbiegħ.
So if you happen to be in the vicinity, or you want to celebrate Christmas with a difference, hop over to the venues from 5th December till the 8th, for a special festive spectacle.
