Even In The Wettest Month, Here’s Why Maltese People Should Always Be Outside

How many times have you woken up in the past couple of weeks and thought, “Nope, I’m going back to bed”? It’s cold, it’s wet and we can’t see our bestest friend, the sun.

The reality is that Malta isn’t cold or wet at all when compared to our European friends. So last Sunday, I braved the outdoors, and ventured to Selmun Palace for a trek. My god was it a good idea.

1. I got to appreciate the AM

It started with a drodgy, grey morning that quickly brightened as soon as I drove past Xemxija (please note I had been awake for two hours at this point).

From then on, it was just views upon views.

2. It was a great way to discover more of Malta

Team up with a group of friends and hit the road. Or do what I did; grab the only friend who would agree to go with you and join in on one of Experience Trekking’s Sunday hikes.

The group hosts hike every Sunday and every Wednesday, and the vibe of loyalty and sense of good community is such a feel-good way to end your week that it’s certainly worth getting out of bed for.

3. Getting out of your comfort zone is as awesome as it is necessary

Comfy Sundays are a thing we all yearn for throughout the week, but breaking out of habits is a refreshing feeling we all need to feel.

4. And meeting new people was super fun

At the Selmun trek, there were people I wouldn’t normally meet in a week, with residents of anywhere from Mnajdra to Sliema.

There really was most of Malta’s demographic life there, and it was great to interact, make new friends and enjoy my own microcosm of the island.

5. Getting a full dose of nature was healthy and important

Do not underestimate the power of the outdoors.

There’s no other feeling quite like getting your trainers full of mud, your hair tangled with bristles and leaves and your hands scratched with thorns.

When all of that means meeting with these views and seascapes, there’s no doubt that there’s no better place in Malta than our vibrant green countryside.

I got to value all of this when I joined Experience: Adventures & More last weekend.

The core group is a tight-knit community that’s totally open to new members and keen to spend time together. So every two weeks, they meet for some good vibes with a side of stunning views.
