As the windy and rainy February makes way to March, this weekend is set to be full of events, from serious debates to nights of debauchery.

With multiple things going down over 48 hours, you might be confused as to where to start. Well, here are some events around Malta you might want to check out this weekend.

Friday 2nd March:

A discussion all about weed in Malta

Cannabis has been one of the country’s hot topics for months now, and local NGO reLeaf has been at the centre of most of the debates.

With its mission to decriminalise cannabis and eradicate the black market, reLeaf will be hosting a discussion on campus tomorrow. And it’s all going to be hosted by Lovin Malta’s very own Chris Peregin.

The 10-year anniversary of the most wide-reaching blog in Maltese history… with some very special guests

This Friday actually marks the 10 year anniversary since Daphne Caruana Galizia launched her Running CommentaryThe blog went on to get an insane reach and get thousands talking over the last decade, a fact that only resonated louder when Caruana Galizia was killed in car bomb just a few metres from her home last October.

Maltese activists Il-Kenniesa will be celebrating and remembering Caruana Galizia’s works outside Parliament on Friday night. They’ll be joined by Rebecca Vincent, the UK director bureau from Reporters Without Borders UK.

“We invite every single person who read Daphne’s work, who admired her, those who didn’t but respected her right to write it, journalists and media houses in Malta who claim ‘the pen conquers fear’ to be there with us,” Kenniesa wrote on Facebook.

fab gig at the Grand Ball Room

Celebrating one of Malta’s most popular folk acts The Busker, the Hotel Phoenicia’s Grand Ball Room will see the four-piece taking fans through a timeline of everything Busker.

Featuring tracks from the band’s very beginning to some teasers of their next album, this is an essential night for all The Busker fans.

An intimate alternative gig in Valletta

Before that, the trio will be performing at Valletta’s newest venue Offbeat. Hurry though; the cool jazz bar easily fills up, and the hype on Bark Bark is real.

A winner-takes-all boxing match

If a nine-fight extravaganza at sounds like your cup of tea, then The Orpheum in Gżira is where you need to be this Friday.

The night will also featured Malta’s ‘Super’ Scott Dixon facing Ireland’s Kevin Maxwell, so prepare yourselves for a battle of the nations.

A three-band metal night

Metal promoters Rejects’ first event for 2018 sees three bands taking the stage.

Local legends X-Vandals and Noogie’s Crew will be setting the scene for newcomers Grotium’s debut EP launch, in a perfect mix of the old and new.

An indie party to dance the night away

The Funky Monkey sees weekly parties hosting everything from disco to techno and everything in between. This week, it’s indie’s turn.

Saturday 3rd March

One of Malta’s top bands is finally back

Beyond releasing one of the best Maltese albums last year, Plato’s Dream Machine are seen as one of the country’s best local acts right now. Mixing contemporary electronic sounds with traditional themes of religion and  love, they’ve managed to transcend scenes. And now, they’re back.

After an intimate night in Valletta earlier this year which saw PDM play to a limited crowd of some 30 people or so, the band is back for a fully-fledged gig at The Garage on Saturday night.

They’re also following up their performance with two DJ sets from Spots & Stripes’ Bob and Class’ I.YOU for an afterparty.

An old electro favourite returns to Malta

Anyone growing up in the Noughties will surely remember Dr. Lektroluv.

The green electro wizard, now in his 15th year of activity, had graced the island a couple of times back in the day, but will be returning to Malta this Saturday for a classic heavy night. And it’s all going down at Sky Club’s Mansion.

A night dedicated to experimental techno giants

Shrouded in mystery, local dark techno artist Llimbs will be putting on a night of industrial techno beats and noisy drones. He’ll also be supported by fellow Maltese giants Cain and Manthrax.

Gracing the Maltese techno haven that is Liquid will also be Kangding Ray, a French artist who has been steadily making waves over the last decade. Lovers of techno music and experimental music, your night is sorted.
