Article Featured Image

With Malta finally experiencing a steady spell of warm weather, this weekend is set to be another busy one for lovers of art, cinema and music. Add the fact that today’s Friday the 13th, and in between the gimmick factor and the dozens of busy promoters, it’s set to be a lucky weekend for everyone.

Here are nine events happening around the island to help get you started.

Friday the 13th

1. A night of noise with a cheeky title

Malta might currently be celebrating Valletta’s status as the European Capital of Culture 2018, but tonight is all about the European Capital of Noise.

Five sets from some of the alternative scene’s top electronic acts, ranging from live improvisations to eclectic DJ sets.

Get ready to dance till you drop… and then some.

2. A four-band heavy gig

Another punny name, this time Malice in Wonderland.

The Garage in Żebbuġ will be hosting a night of dark, heavy music. Also featuring a foreign act and a local debut, this is shaping up to be one for the books.

3. A steamy Burlesque show

The first of three consecutive nights, tonight sees the return of MalTease, a variety and burlesque show to bring back the classic energy of Valletta’s Strada Stretta.

Returning to the capital, the show will be taking Spazju Kreattiv by storm this weekend.

4. A massive joint exhibition of pieces by legendary artists

From the 7th of April right up till the end of June, Malta started hosting almost 150 pieces by the artistic giants Pablo Picasso and Joan Mirò.

Make the most of this weekend to take in the gorgeous works in Valletta’s Grandmaster’s Palace.

Saturday the 14th

5. The debut album launch of one of the alternative scene’s most exciting new bands

The PlaKard Project have been making big waves in the last couple of months, but this weekend, they’re set to take things to a whole new level.

The experimental trio will be launching their debut album Jump The Fence this Saturday in Naxxar. Featuring a number of guests, from vocalist Angela Vella Zarb to alto saxophonist Mark Harrison. Not to mention celebrated keyboardist Warren Galea, of course.

6. The 10-year anniversary of one of the island’s top party promoters

If you’ve lived in Malta for longer than a couple of years and love clubbing, chances are you’ve heard of local promoters perpendicular. Synonymous with beautiful venues and day-long parties, Perp parties are popular nationwide. And one decade later, it’s time to celebrate their long, fun adventure.

Perpendicular’s 10-year anniversary will be coming to Mosta, at the gorgeous “Secret Garden” housed within Razzett l-Aħmar.

7. A party in the capital

Just as synonymous with the national clubbing scene, are BLANK

These guys managed to bring French behemoth streaming sessions Cercle to Gozo this week, and had also brought their iconic parties to Valletta six months ago during Notte Bianca.

This Saturday, BLANK returns to the capital city for another successful session.

8. Mixing metal and hip hop in one night

The Garage might be known as great hangout (and one of the final bastions) of the metal scene, but this Saturday sees hip hop group 215Collective join the fray for an interesting, three-way event.

Sunday 15th

9. An opportunity to (re)watch a classic Japanese anime

If you love anime, then you’ve definitely heard of the 1988 classic Akira.

This Sunday, you can (re)watch the masterpiece as part of a special Japanese Month at The Cinema Bar by Citylights.

Oh, and it’s absolutely free of charge!

Tag someone who still needs to plan their weekend!
