If You Watch One Netflix Show This Weekend, Watch This Dark Comedy
With another cold, windy and rainy weekend descending onto Malta, many people might be tempted to stay at home and just discover (read: binge-watch) a new TV series. If you’re planning some serious Netflix-and-chilling, we’ve got the perfect show for you.
This is The End Of The F***ing World
A new Netflix series (and its latest must-watch show), The End of the F***king World is perfect for lovers of dark comedy. Disguising itself as a teen comedy, the story follows self-proclaimed psychopath James, a 17-year-old introvert who starts off the series by announcing that he plans to murder foul-mouthed schoolmate Alyssa. Pretending to fall in love with her, James quickly ends up developing actual feelings for Alyssa… something which changes (but deeply disturbs) him.
The show debuted a mere week ago, but it quickly shot up in popularity thanks to online reviews. By the first weekend, it had reached an insane 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As it stands, the show is sitting at an impressive 96%, with an equally impressive 94% Audience Score.
The series is based on a comic book series by Charles Forsman, and had already premiered in the UK on Channel 4.
Now that it’s reaching a wider audience thanks to Netflix, critics are going crazy for The End Of The F***ing World. The guys over at The Atlantic dubbed it “pitch-black perfection”, saying “it creates a world that’s aesthetically distinctive, highly stylized, and fully formed, telling a love story that you wish would go on, even though it probably shouldn’t.”
There are even entire articles dedicated to the show’s soundtrack, which has been described as “bloody brilliant”. And of course, with the most intense binge-watching session of the series already coming to an end, thousands of people all around the world are already demanding an ETA on a second season.
So there you have it; if you want to discover a new Netflix series this weekend, we might’ve just f***ng found one.
