Get ready to celebrate Kinemastik’s 20th anniversary in style at the Msida Bastion Historic Garden in Floriana.

This year, the festival is set to dazzle with a weekend packed with international and local short films, followed by music events that keep the vibe going long after the screenings.

Kinemastik is a cultural NGO based in Malta, responsible for a year-round programme of film screenings, concerts, exhibitions, workshops, talks and short film production.

It collaborates with international filmmakers and festivals to bring independent film to a local audience. Kinemastik links local filmmakers to the world of cinema, providing them with a platform for their work, through local screenings as well as through worldwide distribution of locally produced works.

This weekend, today and tomorrow, expect evenings filled with curated soundtracks, sunset views and refreshments from the garden bar. The main event features two 65-minute sessions of exceptional films curated by Emma Mattei, starting each night at 7:30pm.

Sunday brings a special treat with the return of the Little Rock People – Children’s Short Film Festival after last year’s hiatus. Doors open at 7pm with some warm up games hosted by Vivia India Fabbro, with a juice bar selling for all ages. As soon as it gets dark, the screening will begin, with a collection of short films curated by Jon Banthrope.

This year, Kinemastik is proud to be showing four short films from local young children who took part in Seen & Heard – an international project where young people make films about important subjects they care about.

The Little Rock People festival offers films talking about beans, crazy birds on a volcano, a dad saying nice things about his daughter, and a whale in a hot air ballooon. At the end of the screening, attendees can vote for their favourite and decide who wins, followed by a set from the Tuffigno Boys exclusively created for the event.
