Audiences in Malta can now experience the rich culture of Spain with the upcoming performance of Mu-Danzas Boleras 1812 – 2012, Two spectacular performances will take place on 9th and 10th June at the Manoel Theatre and promises to transport audiences to the vibrant Spanish rhythmic scapes with an unforgettable experience for dance enthusiasts and culture lovers alike.

The brainchild of the late Sharon Sapienza, Mu-Danzas Boleras 1812 – 2012 takes you on a journey through the fascinating history of the Escuela Bolera – the school of Classical Spanish Dance whose steps and repertoire were originally documented by the famous Pericet family.

Covering a swathe of Spanish history, from the Napoleonic Wars to the present, Mu-Danzas Boleras 1812 – 2012 presents the history of a nation and the essence of a people through the evocative art of Spanish dance.

Sharon, one of the world’s leading exponents of the Escuela Bolera, devoted her career to this little-known, traditional dance-form, and strove to bring its splendour before the public in dramatically thrilling form.

Mu-Danzas Boleras 1812 – 2012 is the culmination of that aspiration. Today the Sharon Sapienza Foundation continues her passion and determination to promote this dance form.

After two successful seasons in Europe, including at the prestigious Festival de Jerez, where it was met with uniformly superb reviews, her mother, Edwidge Sapienza, completes her daughter’s vision, bringing Mu-Danzas Boleras 1812 – 2012 to Sharon’s home in Malta.

Being the tenth anniversary of her passing, this performance gives Maltese audiences an opportunity to witness this rarely seen form of dance, along with the theatrical conception of an artist who poured her spirit into the art-form she adored.

The show is a passionate depiction of a nation and a people and celebration of Escuela Bolera, a dance form that originated in Spain in the 18th century. The performance is a fusion of classical Escuela Bolera dance repertoire, contemporary choreography, and captivating music. The dancers will showcase their exceptional talent, grace, and precision in a series of performances that highlight the beauty and complexity of Escuela Bolera.

Mu-Danzas Boleras 1812 – 2012 invites audiences to experience the intricate rhythms and shimmering choreography of a largely unknown, and wonderfully rich artistic tradition. The audience will be enthralled by the captivating performances that showcase the artistry and passion of this form of Spanish dance.
