Malta’s film industry has been making advances recently, but our film repertoire is about to expand beyond a new milestone in just a few weeks.

Il-Misteru tal-Għoġol tad-Deheb is Malta’s first full-length film made specifically for kids in Maltese, and will be premiering at Eden Cinemas on the 15th of December.

It is a family-oriented film and aims to start a new trend in local children’s films by being entertaining, thrilling, and of course, suitable for kids.

Maltese producer Ruth Frendo told Lovin Malta that “the film is inspired by an article featured in the National Geographic in the 1940s about a group of Maltese children who disappear during a school outing in underground tunnels.”

Taking cue from Malta’s rich history is a great place to start, and will also introduce Maltese children to some lesser known stories in Malta’s past.

Not only that, but the production team even roped in BAFTA-winner scriptwriter Jess Murphy and Pixar/Disney consultant Bobette Buster as script-doctors, to really take the production to the next level.

With the cast made up of local actors like Aiken Buhagiar, Neve Mansueto, Henry Zammit Cordina, Deandra Agius, Christabelle Scerri and Mandy Micallef Grimaud, this Christmas you can finally take your children, nieces or nephews to a fun, fully produced Maltese film – hopefully the first of many to come.
