Two Completely Different Spa Experiences To Try Out In Malta This Spring

Article Featured Image

Rejoice, it’s spring! If there were any flowers to blossom in Malta, this is the time they would be doing so. The sun is shining and most important of all, you’re a little less cranky than you were in winter. No better time to treat yourself to an afternoon at the spa! #DimunjataNoMore

We spent a few hours at two spas in Malta (it’s a hard life but somebody’s got to do it). Here’s what we reckon are the best bits.

1. Eco Spa

For a holistic experience in well-being, we checked out Sanya in Naxxar. Unlike other spas in Malta, Sanya is about all things therapeutic, rather than beauty. So if you’re looking for a manicure or cellulite treatments, look elsewhere.

From the moment we were greeted by its young, passionate staff and calming music, it didn’t take much to feel detached from it all. With white robes and matching white legs, the journey to a zen state of mind commenced.

Pool & Facilities

Sanya’s indoor heated pool is as close to that lush rainforest vibe as you’ll ever get in Malta. You can swim around, imagining you’re in Bali or relieve muscle tension in one of the two jacuzzis.

For some therapeutic treatment, the thermal showers alternate between hot water to icy cold, aiding circulation. And if it is that high Bali humidity your body is craving in life (before the Maltese summer equivalent), step into the steam room opposite, where Eucalyptus is sprayed, helping in respiratory problems and allergies. Unless it is people you are allergic to – for which we are yet to find a solution.

Juice & Salad Bar

100% organic ingredients go into Sanya’s juices and salads and the menu is plant-based. They even have their own mini garden where they grow their own sprouts and microgreens. If that is not awesome, we don’t know what is.

We’ll be the first to admit that we’d never been excited about a salad before, nor would we ever have put the words ‘salad’ and ‘sexy’ in the same sentence, but their salads are pretty sexy. And tasty. #DontEvenKnowWhoWeAreAnymore

Classes & Workshops

There’s a variety of classes, the most popular and unique being the Yin Yoga & Sound Meditation class, which makes use of singing bowls and chimes. Namaste. And if that weren’t enough, Sanya also holds fermentation workshops, creativity workshops and retreats abroad. #Holism.

To top it all off, there’s a library. Yes, a library.

2. Luxury Spa

For an escape from the hustle and bustle of Sliema and a more hotel feeling of luxury, we tried out the Fortina Spa, consisting of the Spa Sante and Thalasso Spa Mediterranee.

One thing that immediately sets the Fortina Spa apart is its themed rooms; namely the Cleopatra room, the Indonesian room and the Japanese room, each with its themed decor, associated treatments and unique experience.

Facilities

Spa Sante is a delightful relaxation area which centres around a large whirlpool, inluding a steam room, lanconium, relaxation room, sauna, ice grotto and a kneipp walk, which is great for the nervous and immune system.

Spa Sante

Indoor pool

A must-try is the spa’s concentrated heated seawater pool, containing three times the amount of salt and minerals than normal seawater does, which has great antiseptic properties; beneficial for inflammation and skin disorders as well as being great for skin hydration and texture.

Treatments Fit For A Queen

…and ourselves.

The Fortina Spa offers a myriad of lux treatments, our favourite being the ‘Mala Mayi’ ritual which includes a full body exfoliation followed by a deep sea mud wrap leaving your skin feeling like a baby’s bottom, topped off by a full body massage. Awful.

Packages

The Fortina Spa also caters to couples and offers great package deals which include a choice of treatment, use of the spa facilities as well as a great 3-course meal at ‘The Terrace‘ where you can enjoy killer views of Valletta.

Not too shabby for an afternoon out. Or a present for that mother-in-law you want to get rid of for a day or so.

Whichever you are in the mood for, you will leave feeling like you are walking on clouds. Win-win. All you need is an eye mask and a pair of earplugs for when you find yourself back to reality.

Tag a friend you know needs some relaxation time!
