Malta’s most anticipated alternative music festival is finally here for an impressive seventh edition. Rock the South is happening this weekend at Zion Reggae Bar in Marsaskala, and this year’s lineup is set to yet again attract loads of people from all over the country.

This year’s RTS edition sees over 30 acts lined up for the three-day festival, an eclectic mix of local heavyweights, interesting upcoming bands, and international artists. Some classic favourites are also set to return to the stage, making this edition an unmissable one for fans of the local alternative music scene.

Also present this year is an increased occurrence of electronic acts, from favourites like Yews and KNTRL to exciting newcomers like traskurat. Also gracing RTS this year will be Danjeli, a popular producer-musician-songwriter-promoter who will be closing off one of the festival’s stages on Saturday with a much-anticipated live performance.

Other current favourites of the scene like Brodu, Bark Bark Disco and Fuzzhoneys will also be performing throughout the festival, which opens at 6:30pm on Friday and Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday.

As always, however, the numerous acts will also be performing alongside some exciting international names. Italy’s Giungla and Soccer96 from the UK will both be performing on Saturday, for what is clearly the more electronic-infused night of the festival.

Beyond the live acts, the festival’s three days will feature the Silent Disco, a surreal opportunity to dance along to amazing DJ sets… completely through headphones. It might initially feel weird walking in to a crowded but silent party, but put those wireless headphones on, and  you’ll be dancing in no time.

As usual, the Silent Disco will go from 10pm till 3am, with a list of acts and promoters lined up: Dark Wave vs Kewn Records on Friday, Bass Culture vs Rock the South Crew on Saturday and Freedom Fighters vs EMM on Sunday.

Check out more info on the festival on the official Facebook event page and don’t miss the opportunity to reserve a ticket for the big weekend right here.
