One of the most legendary – and hands down most historical – events to grace the Maltese calendars is officially back: and this time, it’s even more jam-packed than ever.

The Mdina Medieval Festival, proudly organised by the Mdina Local Council, will take you back to the 12th century on Saturday and Sunday 2nd and 3rd July.

If you’ve never attended, this is a must-see – Mdina, Malta’s very own Silent City, is transformed into land previously unknown, filled with spectacular re-enactments performed by both local and foreign crews, alongside medieval entertainment, music and food!

That’s right – the one weekend you can actually wear that ancient suit of armour you picked up at a recent flea market is here, and the hype is very real.

Mdina used to be the capital city of Malta, so it’s the perfect place for the weekend that will harken back to yore.

Dating all the way back to the 13th century, Mdina actually pre-dates medieval times.

However, seeing it packed with battles, skirmishes, bird of prey flights and so much more, you’ll have to pinch yourself to make sure you really aren’t dreaming.

Look out for extended opening hours to select museums and even the possibility of Medieval cuisine too at this years Medieval Mdina Festival

But it doesn’t end there – make your way between the gathered Jesters and Illusionists as they try to impress and make you laugh and cry, and maybe even take part in a spot of archery, flag throwing – or even sword fighting.

And after it’s all said and done, make sure you grab a refreshment and join a singalong in the Medieval Tavern.

Grab your family and friends, put on your best frock and experience the pristine times in Mdina. The festival will be happening on the 2nd and 3rd of July and is completely free.

And the best part is, kids will both love it – and learn from it – while the adults will feel like they just stepped into the latest season of Game of Thrones. It’s a win win for everyone – just make sure you don’t get caught up in a surprise siege.
