Two Montanaros For The Price Of One: Malta’s 2019 Panto Season Will Have Double The Trouble And Twice The Fun

At the very beginning of the year, Malta’s Panto queen – famed for his performances as many a dame in early local panto productions – Alan Montanaro announced that he was returning to the stage this Christmas as Aladdin’s mother.
Aladdin The Christmas Panto is a production written by the man himself, and he’s hoping to get a few rubs of the lamp before the first night’s curtain call.
With a light dusting of pastazati to glide over the younguns’ heads and slap the adults in the face with, this year’s panto – put together by the Malta Amateur Dramatic Club – will take us all on a magic carpet ride to the Orient.
Telling the story of a young pauper’s journey after stumbling upon a magic lamp with a Montanaro shaped djinn inside, this year’s Christmas panto is sure to rub everyone in just the right way.
Montanaro won’t be sporting pink hair this season, but he has already been heard to say that the “skirts have only gotten shorter and shorter”.
His role as Aladdin’s mother will see him venture into the underground world of gentlemen’s clubs, while John Montanaro will be taking on the role of the genie. That’s right – two Montanaros for the price of one – so double the trouble and twice the fun!
Peppered with a whole cast of hilarious characters, spirits, genies, musical numbers and everyone’s favourite – drama – director Michael Mangion and choreographer Francesco Nicodeme, we will all be led to East Arabia for a night of unforgettable tongue-in-cheek humour.
Ryan Abela will be taking care of the musical direction. A number of lavish costumes have been brought to life y Isabel Warrington to complement the oriental stage designs.
Running from December 23rd through to January 4th, tickets for the show can be purchased here, but book fast as they’re bound to sell out soon!
