As Malta enters 2018, more and more awesome eateries and shopping destinations are opening up all over the island. But there is one place that we are especially excited for, Is-Suq Tal-Belt in Valletta.

This iconic Victorian-era building is not only beautiful, but perfectly poised to be the hottest new hangout once it opens. It’s currently undergoing a renovation to turn it into a real state-of-the-art location, bringing together great food and shopping under one epic roof.

1. The ground floor will be paradise for Maltese foodies

Some of Malta’s best food brands will be setting up shop in the revamped market. Expect cuisine from Vecchia Napoli, Zest, Gululu, ImPasta and The Pulled Meat Company together with new arrivals; Venchi Italian Ice-creams, Pico Loco Spanish tapas, Xiwi live grill, T’Anna Mari fish grill, Konak Middle Eastern cuisine, The Salad Bar and Ta’ Kelinu Maltese pastizzerija.

You will literally be spoilt for choice, so make sure you’re hungry when you visit.

2. The Basement will be your new favourite fresh food market

A new level Basement will be your go-to place for all your grocery shopping, as well as speciality shopping. You can find everything from outlets serving fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, delicatessen, bread, herbs and spices, oils, gourmet foods, wines and fresh delicacies.

One walk through the basement and you’ll have ingredients and recipes for days.

3. And upstairs is the perfect place to chill out

When you’re done from shopping – or before you start, if that’s how you roll – head to the upper level to find a chilled out open space. Hangout, socialise, and grab a cool Victorian-style selfie while enjoying upcoming exhibitions, discussions and even live bands.

4. Or head outside and grab a coffee (or glass of wine) in the Maltese sunshine

The square right outside the market will become the newest open space in Malta’s capital city. Enjoy the Maltese sunshine at great outdoor places like Star Café and Ginger Eatery; and if you have the time, grab a brilliant Maltese platter, some drinks, and dine in front of the wonderful backdrop of Is-Suq Tal-Belt.

5. It’s going to be open 7 days a week

No matter what day it is, Is-Suq Tal-Belt will be there for you, whether you need a quick bite or need to stock up on some fresh ingredients.
