The University of Malta Campus Fest is a tradition which always kicks off the new semester in style, and with thousands of people attending, it’s always a big one. This year, the organisers over at KSU want to take it one step further… and they’re starting it off by introducing camping.

That’s right; this year’s edition of the popular (and free) University festival wants to hold true to the “festival” part of its name. For starters, they’re extending the event to have it over two days. And yes, you’ll now be able to camp on campus for two nights.

“We decided to go forth with the idea of camping since it’s a new concept which will surely create a festival vibe and sense of community during the weekend,” KSU’s Culture and Entertainment Coordinator Luke Abela told Lovin Malta.

Camping is up for a fee of €10 per person for both nights, including the entertainment, merch and Saturday afternoon activities.

KSU are giving attendees the chance to pitch their tent on campus, but also have a limited amount of pre-pitched tents available. As expected, camping is strictly on a first come, first served basis, so you better not sleep on this (get it?).

As always, Campus Fest is the perfect opportunity for freshers to immerse themselves in what will soon become their second home, but it’s also a great events for some ‘oldies’ to relive some of the best years of their lives.

As you’d expect from an event which is going from a one night concert to a two-day festival, Campus Fest needs a lot of people to make it happen. KSU are still looking for helpers, and anyone interested in joining the team can apply here.

Over the last couple of days, KSU released the lineup for this year’s festival, which is as varied as they get. The stage will see everyone from Freddie Portelli, Joe Demicoli and Hooligan, to Brodu, Auntie’s Yellow Sofa and Lara & The Juke Boys. Headliners include Relikc and Manatapu.

Camping and a very varied lineup aren’t the only new things coming to Campus Fest this year.

Saturday afternoon will see various activities, including yoga, slacklining, and entertainment by Red Bull. KSU also announced The Tent, a collaboration with Sound Salon and District for two special DJ sets on both nights.

As if that wasn’t enough, this year’s festival will also see the first personalised cup, which is a plastic re-usable cup that KSU hope will make the festival more sustainable. What’s more, the cup can be bought for just €0.50.

The KSU Hard Rock Cafe Malta Campus Fest 2017 is happening this weekend, on the 13th and 14th of October on Quadrangle (that’s Quad), and more info (and regular updates) on the event can be found on the official Facebook event page.
