This Gorgeous Attard Villa Allegedly Has A Centuries-Old Family Curse On It

Roseville is an Art Nouveau country villa situated in Attard. It was built in the early 20th Century and is situated in Triq Sant’ Anton. This house still stands as a gorgeous reminder of an old architectural style, and it manages to stick out in a road full of equally beautiful villas. Under it all, however, Roseville might be hiding a deep, dark secret.

Of course, as with most stories of this kind, historical facts have been intertwined with urban legend, but the rumours behind this gorgeous villa are as wide-reaching as they are intense.

Villa Roseville was built as a summer vacation home by one Dr. Briffa. The architecture of this villa is enough to keep you staring at it for a couple of minutes when you first come across it, and there’s a very good reason for that.

The majestic decor and unique designs give off an eerie feel, especially when it comes to the weird pointy windows and painted motifs accentuating the house. It is said that this house was built in two phases; the ground floor was built in 1912 and the first floor in 1921.

This beautiful and domineering house was abandoned by its owners… that is, because they all died. Back in the 1930s, the first family member to go was the youngest daughter of the family who lived there, allegedly dying under very shady circumstances.

Right after her – a couple of months later, in fact – her mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving the house as a subject to gossip and fear. Some even claimed it was cursed.

Art Nouveau Architecture In Malta

As soon as this charming house was put up for sale, the father of the family died, ending up with the villa being inherited by some relatives. The new homeowners moved in and started restoring it to its former glory.

Not believing in the alleged curse that had already started dominating the area, they just moved in as soon as it was ready.

A couple of months later, their eldest son suddenly died, only to be followed by the youngest child in the family. Soon after, and in a very quick succession, both parents passed away.

Needless to say, nobody wanted to move into this house which had apparently murdered two families. It was abandoned for several years after that, left to rot and swallow itself and its terrible curse.

Decades later, the “curse” seems all but gone. No similar cases were ever reported again, and the villa is now a gorgeous stop along the beautiful road behind the San Anton Gardens. Oh, and it’s now also an elderly home.
