This Website Visualises Malta’s Government Scandals Through A Digital Web
Just in case you haven’t been following the news for the past four years, technology (and someone with quite a bit of time on their hands) is stepping in to save you a hell of a lot of time catching up.
MaltaScandals.com is a website tool where users can browse through the scandals and connections related to Malta’s current government. It includes anyone you can think of that’s has so much as a smudge of dirt (or alleged dirt) to their name. Although it doesn’t show any scandals relating to individuals from or linked to the Nationalist Party – so if you’re looking for the whole picture, this is not quite it.
Although it feels somewhat unintuitive at times to use, the creators have set out to make this ‘digital web’ easy to navigate. They’ve used red spots to denote scandals, silver spots for companies, and head-shots or green spots for individuals.
They’ve also laid out a five-point user manual:
- Click on any of the nodes to explore the relationships
- Click on empty area to return to main web
- Drag the web around with your mouse
- Zoom in/out with mouse wheel
- Use the Search facility and Zoom Reset buttons at top right
Although the data isn’t perfect and there seem to be a few connections missing, it does help you to get a clearer understanding of who’s done what and with whom. Consider it a really savvy cheat sheet for all the inevitable political convos you’ll be having over the next month.
