Before the pandemic, Malta was the destination of many cruises throughout the year as tourists enjoyed all that was on offer from a Mediterranean cruise. Now, a cruise ship captain has revealed how she made changes to a window to stop men inappropriately staring at all her glory.
One cruise ship Captain, Kate McCue, has recently revealed a curious story about Malta involving an update that was made to the bridge wing of her cruise ship when she took over. In a TikTok video, McCue takes viewers for a tour around the bridge wing – the part of the ship used to take control of docking and undocking.
Besides the controls, the bridge wing also has a window in the floor to allow the cruise ship crew to line up the ship with the pier and to show the lines being tied or untied from the pier.
In the TikTok, McCue describes her first departure, which was in Malta in 2019, at the time when she was first taking over as Captain.
“I was standing on top of the window and I was wearing normal clothes, my civilian clothes because I hadn’t taken over command yet.” She recounts in the video, continuing as she explains that “as I sit here in my skirt, I noticed it was taking quite a long time to get our lines in, and that’s because the line handlers were located directly below.”
In light of this, McCue states in a cheery tone, that a carpet insert was made to be able to cover the window from any wandering gazes whenever it was needed.
McCue has been known to create short videos going in-depth on the day-to-day life of running a cruise ship – whether that is explaining how something functions or even just giving viewers dazzling shots of the wide, open ocean.
