Tips On Saving Money On A Night Out In Malta

Article Featured Image

Fact: You don’t need to go out every night and spend loads of money.

Sometimes, it’s the end of the month, you take a look at your bank account, and when you’ve finally calmed down from internal screaming and utter disbelief, you realise you need to cut down on spending.

Then again, it’s not like you’re not going to go out when the weekend comes around… you deserve it. Here are our seven tips on saving some dough on a night out in Malta.

1. Carpool

Find someone who is not drinking, and make them your best friend. Convince them that going around looking for a parking place will be a breeze, it’s defnitely worth parking in the vicinity… “we can go home anytime we want”.

Yes we, you snake… you’re not wasting money on that taxi or van home, get comfy in that passenger seat and sing your heart out.

2. Pre-drinks

This is a must. You want to get turnt but you don’t want to spend all that money in a club. Bottles in clubs cost a ridiculous amount. Go to your local supermarket, look the sales assistant square in the face and buy that bottle of vodka.

They can’t judge you; the alcohol will make you feel better. Yeah, it’s only going to take you half way (because we’re all semi-alcoholics who’ve built up a strong tolerance), but it’s a great start.

3. Be a social butterfly

We’re not telling you to bump and grind your way to a few free drinks and a shot.

We’re only implying that showing an interest in a conversation, and having a good time around others might warrant a drink coming your way. Wink wink.

4. Look at percentages

It’s time you start working the numbers on those alcoholic drinks.

There’s no point in buying another beer when you’re trying to go hard on as little cash as possible. Just buy a shot of Absinthe, and you’ll be fine in a few weeks.

5. Tokens

You know those people that come up to you in the streets of Paceville?

Many of the offers on the tokens that are given out are not too bad at all. Buy 1 get 1 free is always a classic and frankly always welcome. Some clubs will even offer whole free drinks.

No, they’re not going to be champagne on ice, but hey; every little helps.

6. Don’t buy everyone you know a drink!

It’s the classic Maltese move.

You meet someone you know-ish at the bar, you start buying rounds, trays, and eventually bottles. We’re not saying never buy your friends a round, but when you’re counting pennies, you’d better just say hi and bye.

7. Eat when you get home

There is almost nothing better than engorging yourself after a night out. All of a sudden, McDonalds and Maxims transcend themselves into a triple Michelin star experience.

The oily fries, the greasy pizza, and the pre-hangover burgers; we know they call out to you in the dark, but maybe at this stage of the night, you should just crawl back home and make yourself a pot of noodles on the cheap.
