For the love of cannoli and arancini! If you love travelling to Sicily, you now have a new travel option through Ragusa XPress’ connection between Malta and Sicily and will be available from 18th May onwards.

The announcement was made by the Marina di Ragusa e Dintorni’s Facebook page. The service will be operating through a 51-metre long ferry that has a capacity of 400 passengers and 18 small vehicles.

The journey is expected to make its crossings to the Marina of Ragusa, a small yacht marina in southern Sicily. The ferry had completed a test run for the journey.

Originally, owner Paul Gauci, had announced that the Ragusa Xpress would start its service two years ago in June 2023, however, this never happened. According to reports, it was due to lack of permits from the Sicilian authorities.

No details on the fare prices for the crossing are available yet, however, the new ferry is expected to compete with Virtu which operates to Pozzallo and Catania with tickets to become available soon.

The trip between Malta and Sicily is one of the most popular journeys from the two islands. So much so that in 2022 another ferry doing the same journey did 1,414 trips from Malta to Sicily and vice-versa.
