Four Air Malta Flights Cancelled Due To Incoming Two-Day Strike Across Germany
Air Malta has announced the cancellation of flights between Malta and Munich on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th March 2024, following a strike by the Verdi Union affecting Munich Airport Services.
Passengers booked on affected flights KM306/KM307 and KM308/KM309 are advised to contact the Air Malta Customer Service Centre to rebook on alternative flights or request a full ticket refund.
The strike, happening across all of Germany’s federal states, except Bavaria, is expected to disrupt travel for more than 200,000 passengers and has put pressure on Deutsche Lufthansa AG to negotiate a deal with ground crews.
In a surprising move, the Verdi union has formed an alliance with Fridays For Future, the youth-led climate activism group founded by Greta Thunberg.
This partnership comes as public transport workers across Germany join climate activists for a week of strike action, culminating in a nationwide walkout and climate protest on Friday.
The collaboration between Verdi and Fridays For Future argues that addressing the climate crisis requires greater investment in public transport.
Under the slogan #WirFahrenZusammen (We’re driving together), the alliance aims to stimulate public support for their cause.
The protests involve 90,000 workers from 130 municipal transport organisations and demand better working conditions, higher pay, and substantial investments by 2030 to double current capacity.
