The Gozo fast ferry summer schedule will be extended to cover the whole year due to a €1.3 million investment.

Besides seeking to keep the fast ferry schedule the same, this investment aims to increase the routes between the il-Port il-Kbir on Valletta and the Port of Mġarr in Gozo.

When sharing this news, Transport Minister Chris Bonett reiterated his willingness to exploit sea transport in the best way possible.

“As I had the chance to speak in a recent interview, I believe that the sea is a means of transport that is not utilised enough in these islands. Therefore as a government we are addressing this niche with the aim of it being a main priority in the wider Government Strategy for transport and mobility.”

Meanwhile, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri stated that, since the fast ferry’s first year of operation, it carried around 365,000 passengers. This number jumped to 693,000 in 2023 while in the first six months of this year, the service has already been used by 409,000 people.

The Gozo Tourism Association welcomed the news and confirmed the increase of commuters as a response to the introduction of this service.

The new winter schedule will come into effect on 1st October.
