The word ‘hostel’ is enough to make any lux traveller shudder with its negative connotations and association with dirt and shabbiness. However, this is a common misconception. There has been a vast improvement in hostel standards and design in recent years, tempting more and more backpackers to opt for the hostel life experience.
Apart from the appeal of the special atmosphere and community culture hostels promote, travellers are tempted by the leeway to splurge on memorable experiences rather than paying lots for a room they will only sleep in, and perhaps being able to afford more time in the country. In a nutshell, travelling on a budget can be a potentially amazing experience as long as the right hostel is chosen.
Here is our pick of the coolest hostels in Malta and why we love them.
1. Inħawi Boutique Hostel
Inħawi is one of the newest additions to the Island’s hostels, a building previously owned by the Sisters Of Charity and used as a school. This is why we love it.
Some greenery amidst the concrete jungle that is Balluta & St.Julian’s – a sight for sore eyes.
Also a stone’s throw away from the sea, which can be seen from upstairs.
Not too shabby for hostel life if you ask us.
The cute Neighbourhood café
… and its bespoke bicycles.
2. Hostel Jones
A traditional Sliema townhouse converted with a lot of love, creativity, good vibes, and whenever possible, recycled materials.
Part hippie, part quirky…
Nothing beats support for local creativity.
Mixed with the traditional
3. Hostel Malti
A 200-year old Ta’ Giorni townhouse converted into a lovely, homely hostel with (sea, sand, sun and surf) themed dorm rooms. What’s not to love? Definitely not:
… and mosaic, everywhere!
Its awesome rooftop terrace
Complete with jacuzzi and comfy chill-out area.
Cocktail & BBQ nights
Served with sweet tunes and good energy.
There are definitely other fantastic hostels in Malta to choose from, making Malta a great pit stop on any Euro trip. Alternatively, simply stop by and mingle with people from around the globe. Happy travels!
