Malta International Airport has kicked off summer in style, launching two new direct routes, Stuttgart and Helsinki.

While Stuttgart is brand new on the schedule, Helsinki makes a welcome return after six years, this time operated by Norwegian.

The move strengthens Malta’s ties with the Scandinavian market just as peak travel season gets underway.

The airport saw a bustling May, with 927,709 passengers passing through, up 8.1% compared to last year.

The UK held onto its spot as Malta’s most popular market for the second month in a row, accounting for 22.4% of total traffic.

Meanwhile, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing market, with a 35.8% spike in passengers. This boom was fuelled by more flights to Warsaw and the arrival of a new airline on the scene.

With an 84.9% seat load factor, it’s clear that demand for Malta is going strong as summer heats up
