Ponte Ferries Suspends Malta-Sicily Route For Winter Months
Ponte Ferries will suspend its Malta-Sicily route for the winter months, as of the end of September.
The ferry operation made the announcement in a statement this afternoon, without confirming when it plans to re-commence the route.
In operation since last May, Ponte Ferries has been offering people an alternative Malta-Sicily ferry route to the longstanding one operated by Virtu Ferries.
While Virtu links Valletta to the southern Sicilian town of Pozzallo, Ponte takes people to Augusta, between Syracuse and Catania.
Ponte said that it has carried over 32,000 passengers and 6,000 vehicles between the two ports since last May and that it is proud of its operations so far.
“People have responded positively to the introduction of competition between Malta and Sicily,” Ponte said. “We would like to thank all those who used our services wholeheartedly, also those travellers whose travelling plans were somehow changed due to the isolated operational stop we had last week.”
“We are proud that our team has intervened and provided immediate alternatives to those effected. In general, Ponte has received positive feedback from those travelling us be them holiday makers or cargo operators.”
