Two Consecutive Months Of Over 700,000 Passenger Movements Through Malta International Airport

For the second consecutive month, Malta International Airport just welcomed over 700,000 passengers.

With 726,299 passenger movements in May – an increase of 7.7% from 2019, pre-pandemic – MIA’s summer season is well underway.

These massive numbers have been primarily driven by Italian visitors, which “topped MIA’s market leaderboard with a 24% market share”, followed by visitors from the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain.

Regardless of Malta’s internal problems, tourists just keep coming in their droves. Something about our slice of Mediterranean paradise seems to be an irresistible siren’s call.

This news is consistent with and MIA announcement earlier this year that 2023’s first quarter was the busiest ever for MIA.

If numbers like these continue to manifest over the coming summer months, this year could be busier than ever before for MIA, an airport which is clearly able to handle the rush.

But once visitors leave Luqa, they’ll face the real test.

Can our infrastructure handle the influx?
