A Maltese group trip to Pakistan took an unexpected turn after high-ranking government officials and media outlets took a keen interest in their adventure.

GlobalTravelBook recently became the first Maltese travel agency to organise a group trip to Pakistan, taking travellers on a two-week tour of the northern part of the region.

However, they were also treated to an event that wasn’t part of the original itinerary.

After organising the Pakistan trip, GlobalTravelBook founders Luke Zarb Cousin and Shaun Galea got in touch with their Pakistani friend Khurram Khan, who chairs the Swieqi Cricket Club. Khan contacted his friend Malik Sharjeel, a former advisor of the Pakistani Prime Minister, to organise a meet-up with the Governor of Punjab, Baligh Ur Rehman, and the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab Malik Ahmad Khan.

The Pakistani officials originally only invited Zarb Cousin and Galea, but the GlobalTravelBook founders requested that the other travellers join them.

Not only did the travellers get to meet the Pakistani government officials but they were given the red carpet treatment, with several Pakistani journalists filming their arrival and their visit making it to the Pakistani press.

“Thank you to the governor of Punjab and the Speaker of the Assembly for greeting us,” GlobalTravelBook said.
