Malta International Airport closed 2019’s summer season on a high note, with 823,653 passengers passing through in August alone.
The combination of the holiday season and over 120 destinations made for a busy and promising August for MIA, with the numbers translating to a growth of 8.4% when compared to the same month last year.
The airport also experienced a 5.8% increase in aircraft movements and a 7.6% increase in seat capacity, something which can be attributed to the airport’s top drivers of passenger traffic, which saw several increases – with Germany and France being the fastest-growing markets.
The increase in traffic translates to the following: 3.1% up from the UK, 24.7% from Germany, 13.7% from France and 9.3% from Spain.
MIA’s solid performance was fuelled by their 16 summer developments, which included the introduction of several new routes and improved flight frequencies on a number of existing routes.
