9 Moments From This 2011 Maltese Film Trailer That Are Still Priceless AF
Stumbling upon this golden gem of a Maltese film was pretty much this week’s blessing for us. The Call is a 2011 featured by Manuel Pace, based off an obscure novel called Betrayal.
Here’s the full, three-minute (yes, really) trailer in all its glory.
In case you’re a little confused; first of all, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Secondly, let’s go through this slowly but surely. Get ready for a precious adventure.
1. The title sequence is genius
Saul Bass seriously needs to get a lesson or two from these guys. The Call‘s title sequence is clearly top notch material.
2. The accents are too real
We felt really confused hearing the impeccable Russian accent coming out of these familiar actors’ mouths. They genuinely did very well at their foreign accent lessons.
3. The sort of lesbian scene
Kind of makes us shift a bit in our seats to see that these guys were so advanced for 2011.
The sequence at the bottom says Love and Friendship, but we don’t believe it. The music is too sinister.
4. This glorious helicopter
We feel like getting this exact effect was really a bit of a bitch to carry out — we can tell that the background is not real, but maybe they were going for a post-modern feel?
5. The long trailer keeps you on your toes
Seriously, this trailer is keeping us on our toes AF.
It starts off in Malta, goes off to Russia, and then travels back in time to a 1980s East Germany. The plot twists might be too much to handle.
6. The sex scenes are intriguing
Those sheets make us feel really into it just by looking at them — the whole tiger print thing going on is almost too Russian to handle.
7. In the midst of it all, this guy sounds very Maltese
Come on Etienne.
8. The shooting scenes are amazing
Transporter? What Transporter?
If you love action, this film has it all. And then some.
9. Those accents though, seriously
We all thought that this guy was genuinely of Middle Eastern descent, and not a Maltese impostor.
10. This other hot sex scene
So raunchy, bħall ta’ barra hi!
11. THIS explosion
Too good to be real? Probably.
12. Does the Middle East really look like Ġerma?
Every single Middle East scene is actually shot at Ġerma.
You know, that abandoned hotel in Marsascala.
13. People getting shot genuinely makes us jumpy
These people are seriously betraying and shooting each other constantly throughout the whole trailer.
Cancel your weekend plans and please watch this film, but get ready for an emotional rollercoaster. Game of Thrones has got nothing on The Call.
