WATCH: YouTuber Reimagines What Malta’s Maps Could Secretly Look Like
We all know that certain countries’ distinctive maps have landed them iconic comparisons, with Italy’s boot being one of the most popular ones for centuries now. German YouTuber, amateur scientist and artist Zackabier uploaded a video challenging this, trying to reimagine what countries in Europe and beyond look like (or remind him of). And while some of them might seem like quite a stretch, that’s exactly what makes the entire thing hilarious to watch.
The video, which was uploaded back in 2012 and has now gathered nearly one million views, started making the rounds again when people from the 51 featured countries began sharing it all over again. Needless to say, we were pretty interested to see what the YouTuber would make of Malta, and while the mainland is still very much fish-themed (featuring seven small ones instead of one big one), sister islands Gozo and Comino got a whole new treatment… a cute little mouse, and a small piece of cheese.
Here are some other favourites of ours from the 13 minute video.
1. Albania is… a condom?!
A couple of Albanian users commented on the video, but instead of expressing rage, they really took it in their stride. One user actually commented saying “absolutely accurate”.
2. Denmark’s reinterpretation and description is everything
“On the left, there is a fat version of Batman who has just got out of some nasty shit, with a fish eating the slime from his belly and a weird, elderly-looking ghost-like creature pointing at him. The creature also seems to be yelling at Batman. What a curious ensemble!”
3. France looks adorable as an owl
4. Georgia, Europe’s Platypus
5. Great Britain, appropriately imagined as a red dragon
6. “Hungary is a… potato. I’m sorry for not having a better idea. I tried hard.”
7. Iceland as a “spiky cactus with blossoms on it”
This one was particularly interesting for us because Iceland’s shape is often compared to Malta’s, so it was quite fascinating to see something other than a fish coming out of the huge Northern island. You could technically apply this to Malta, if you wanted to.
