The offbeat suspenser was filmed off the coast of Malta and at the Malta Film Studios by first-time filmmaker Winston Azzopardi and features his son, Joe Azzopardi, as the only actor in the film.

It was released a few days ago in the US and Canada and online on Amazon. Despite gaining some favourable reviews from a number of acclaimed film critics, The Boat didn’t make many waves upon its initial release …until now.

Well kind of…

It seems like it’s become one of the most downloaded torrents on an online streaming platform, second only to Scooby-Doo: Return To Zombie Island.

We don’t know what led to the film becoming so popular over the past couple of days but according to the website, 314 people have uploaded it to the site and 202 have downloaded it as a result… and it’s in HD.

Now, we totally don’t condone the act of illegal downloading, especially after all the hard work and money that goes into creating a movie like this, but it’s still pretty cool that a Maltese movie is beating the likes of blockbuster such as Aladdin and nothing helps a film like The Boat achieve cult status post-release like trending torrents.
