Maltese Mum Fills Home With 1,000 Origami Butterflies For Daughter’s Birthday
Sam DeBattista woke up to the most incredible surprise on her 20th birthday. Her mother had surrounded their entire home with an endless sea of colourful paper butterflies.
Helen Anne-Marie Pearson cut and folded 1,000 origami butterflies, and hung them around the whole house while her daughter was out.
The butterflies are a symbol of Sam’s transformation into a “beautiful adult”.
Diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease at 18, Sam has recently begun campaigning for the introduction of euthanasia in Malta.
From speaking out on national TV to writing on Lovin Malta, Sam hopes her story will help people better understand why those suffering from degenerative diseases may turn to euthanasia in the later stages of their life.
