Watch: Actually, Jimpurtani – Peppi Azzopardi Rewrites Philip Vella’s Classic Song For Upcoming Caritas Telethon

It’s hard to meet a Maltese person who hasn’t heard X’Jimpurtani, the 1995 irreverent classic all about not allowing yourself to care too much about things. Well, get ready to feel the exact opposite.

The original lyrics of the song were written by Mario Fenech Caruana and the 28-year-old Għajna tal-Poplu track has now been given a new lease on life, with one very important change: instead of X’Jimpurtani (I Don’t Care), it’s now Jimpurtani (I Care).

Jimpurtani features the return of composer and performer Philip Vella, who sings about everything from caring about an earthquake in a far-away country to a number of social issues that Malta faces on a regular basis.

This rewriting of the old classic is actually the theme song of this year’s Caritas telethon, which is organised annually to collect funds for the charity’s work in Maltese society.

“The lyrics of this song highlight the different situations people aided by Caritas find themselves in, as this song recounts the different stories encountered by Caritas during its work in different sectors of Maltese society,” Caritas director Anthony Gatt said of Jimpurtani.

The Caritas Telethon will be aired live on all local television stations on Saturday 18th November 2023 from 11am to 11pm.
