British band Coldplay have released a new song and video from their upcoming EP Kaleidoscope, and all the song proceeds will be going to Malta-based NGO MOAS. The news follows the band’s confirmation as patrons of the NGO earlier this year, when they had said they felt “duty-bound” to help MOAS’ “noble mission”.

The song, aptly named A L I E N S, was co-written and co-produced by legendary ambient and electronic music producer Brian Eno and Markus Dravs, a Grammy Award-winning producer who worked with artists like Arcade Fire, Björk, Florence + The Machine, and Kings of Leon.

“We are grateful for Coldplay’s continuous support for MOAS’ cause and mission,” said Regina Catrambone, co-founder and Director of MOAS. “Since 2014, we have rescued over 39,000 lives, but it is now more than ever before that we need help and solidarity.”

“Coldplay’s music is a wakeup call to the world, bringing awareness to the plight of migrants and refugees,” added co-founder Christopher Catrambone. “We need new and creative ways to educate people of the realities and pain that they have been through. Without empathy, we are lost.”

The music video for the song, which sounds a little different from previous Coldplay songs and definitely echoes Brian Eno’s previous work, perfectly reflect the plight of what migrants crossing the Mediterranean go through. As the song’s title implies, however, it’s all presented in a colourful and metaphoric way, showing instead the story of a family of aliens who had to escape their home planet and cross dangerous galaxies.

“Somewhere out there in the unknown, all the E.T.s are calling home,” frontman Chris Martin sings. When the family of aliens land on Earth, it all makes sense.

The band’s new EP, which will be released on CD and vinyl on the 4th of August, is the sister release to A Head Full Of Dreams, the 2015 album which has sold more than 5 million copies. A L I E N S is one of five songs on the EP, which will also include a Tokyo Remix of their hit single Something Just Like This, which was a collaboration with superstar DJ duo The Chainsmokers.

Coldplay recently also teamed up with MOAS on a new t-shirt which can be purchased on their online merch store.
