The Maltese islands practically turn into one big feast over summer, but it’s easy to get lost in the weekly festivities and lose track of what’s happening when. If you somehow needed another reason to look forward to summer, this video uploaded by Manuel Xuereb shows what 2016 on the sister island looked like, and it’s amazing.
“The video features almost all the feasts of last summer,” Manuel explained. “I wish I could’ve featured them all, but I couldn’t attend each and every feast for personal reasons.” Għarb, Żebbuġ, Fontana and Munxar are the only four Gozitan feasts which don’t feature in the video. This only presented him with a challenge for 2017, however. “It’s now become my personal challenge to have all the Gozitan summer feasts in my next video!” That will include some 15 feasts, but Manwel is set on featuring them all.
“This is not about me though. It’s about how unique each and every feast is, and how much Gozo has to offer to tourists,” Manuel concluded. “Many traditions are dying and Gozo is suffering from an ageing population. But we’re very proud of our small culture.”
The video features anything from the titular statues’ exits and the attendee’s euphoria…
… to the amazing parties which follow, and some of the coolest firework displays on the island, of course!
