WATCH: From Death Metal To Dad Jokes – This New Maltese Tik Tok Account Is Equal Parts Lame And Hilarious

‘Abysmal Torment’, ‘Loathe’ and ‘For The Godless’ might not sound like the funniest punchlines around, but anyone who knows insane metal drummer Max Vassallo knows how much comedy still features in the typically brutal genres he plays. As luck would have it, Max is now on Tik Tok.

It all started a couple of weeks ago, while people were (sort of) settling in to the first full month of Malta’s semi-COVID-19-lockdown.

Uploading a number of Coronatimes videos, Max had found a brand new platform to share his (kinda lame, kinda hilarious) dad jokes with the world.

And whether it was complimenting a party’s sound system by reading out a holy book that said hosanna to looking at a tub of Colgate and telling someone on the phone to “Call Gejtu”, it’s all pretty much what you’d expect when you leave a funny man locked indoors for longer than you probably should.

It all took a turn to the slightly more viral these last couple of days, though, with Max’s videos suddenly going from just over 500 views to more than 15,000.

First, it was “an introduction to car parts in Maltese”, featuring everything from “sterimm wheel” to “shecupsoverss”.

Then, an even longer sketch saw Max argue with Samuel L. Jackson’s character on Pulp Fiction (or rather, Palp Fikxin) as “Sammy” angrily dares Max to say “what” again, while the Maltese man is confusingly just repeating “waqgħat!” as his sandwich is shot off his hands.

Again, I probably shouldn’t be laughing, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t snort out the water I was drinking when I watched this the first time. And the second. OK, maybe three times tops.

Max’s videos are slowly gaining traction, presumably as they make their way to more and more WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger threads nationwide.

Barely 20 days since his video was uploaded, Max has now ammassed over 70,000 views on the handful of short clips.

And if you needed a reminder of where this all started out, check out Max in his more typical and – ahem, “serious” – environment.

Here he is dropping some lightning-quick beats with Malta’s premier metal band, Loathe, back in 2012.

Yep, once a comedian…
