WATCH: Half A Decade Later, Malta’s National Football Team Lining Up For A Linkin Park Banger Instead Of L-Innu Malti Is Still Hilarious

Malta’s national football team hasn’t had the best of luck on the pitch over the years, and this throwback is just another example of that (albeit way more harmless).
On September 4th 2014, Malta was set to face Slovakia in a friendly at Zilina Stadium, and as pre-match rituals go, the team lined up shoulder-to-shoulder, ready to belt out the Maltese national anthem.
A respectful silence descended on the stadium as players and fans alike waited for the national anthem to play over the speakers.
What they got instead was a couple of seconds of the Linkin Park song, Numb.
The DJ at the Zilina Stadium accidentally played the first few seconds of the Linkin Park song but quickly rectified his error and paused the song half a second after the iconic notes blared out… but not before the stadium burst out into laughter.
Even the Maltese players enjoyed the light-hearted mistake…
Mostly thanks to its five-year anniversary, the video resurfaced on Twitter recently and, half a decade later, it’s still hilarious.
Unfortunately, Malta went on to lose that their match against Slovakia 1-0, but the most memorable highlight of that game will be the anthem mix-up before it all started.
