WATCH: Is Malta ‘Too Touristy’ For Its Own Good? This Travel Vlogger Thinks It Might Be…

Malta is no doubt quite the tourist magnet, especially in the summer. Trips to Comino are often more stressful than relaxing because of the amount of people on the tiny island and our airport and harbours are always overflowing with new people arriving.

Whilst this is great for us Maltese in terms of tourist revenue, has Malta become too touristy for its own good?

Travel vlogger ‘Gabriel Traveler’ recently visited Malta and documented his time here

So far he’s uploaded three videos of his time in Malta, and one of them certainly caught our eye. Titled ‘ONE DAY IN MALTA – Tourist Heaven or Hell?’, the video documents a day trip that Gabriel took to explore the islands of Gozo and Comino.

The trip included a three-hour tour of Gozo, and a stopover at Comino and the Blue Lagoon.

The Gozo visit seemed pretty chill, as he explored the island’s popular swimming spots and learned a bit about its history, then grabbing a plate of rabbit ravioli and enjoying a bottle of Cisk.

But it seems the stop by the Blue Lagoon wasn’t as smooth

Getting of the boat, Gabe described the scene as ‘tourist mayhem’, before he even properly got onto the island. In an attempt to get away from the crowds (or ‘madness’ as he says), Gabe opted to head out on a hike on his own in stead of remaining at the Blue Lagoon.

He suggests to his viewers that it might be a better idea to stop by Malta during the off-peak months, closer towards October, when the crowds and the heat are less intense.

Despite being touristy, Gabe seemed to enjoy his trip to Gozo and Comino

Claiming that the beauty of the islands is worth a couple of crowded areas. Plus, you could always head off for a walk on your own.

Gabe has uploaded two other videos during his time in Malta

The first being a ‘first impressions of Malta’ video, that includes a brief history of the Maltese islands and an exploration of our capital city, Valletta. The second video, which is the most recent upload on his channel, is more a basic ‘Malta appreciation’ video.

According to his Instagram, his next and final video on Malta will be a ‘how expensive is Malta?’ video, so keep an eye out for that.
