WATCH: Malta’s ‘Metal Santa’ Is Positively Insane (And We’re Loving Every Second)
What do you reckon Santa spends most of his time doing from January to November? Well, whatever type of hibernation mode the big guy’s on, you’ve got to expect him to want to let off some steam come December. And if this newly-surfaced footage is anything to go by, Malta’s the perfect stop to do so.
“Santa’s duty of delivery is near, he charges and fuels up for the big day by performing some heavy AF METAL.” And boy does he do that. In a video uploaded by Spinesplitter Studio’s David Depasquale, Santa Claus can be seen rocking out in a Maltese field, in typical December overcast weather.
All that resting (and eventual rocking) must have worked up quite an appetite, because the video quickly devolves into a huge indulgent feast.
Spinesplitter Studio’s Christmas carols with a difference have become somewhat of a tradition with Maltese metal fans.
In 2015, a heavy version of Carol Of The Bells saw Melchior Borg belt out some insane screaming vocals. Last year, David instead opted for a New Year’s Eve special, in the form of a cover of a Sepultura song.
2016 also saw the metal music studio upload a wide variety of cover videos, from Blur’s Song 2 to good old Metallica covers.
This year, David Depasquale teamed up with Figure of Speech Productions to bring Metal Santa to life. A recent video production company on the block, FSP has already won a Best Documentary Award at an international film festival for their first feature-length production, a film on the metal scene in Malta entitled Brotherhood.
