What does theatre mean to you? A family, a challenge and a journey are some of the answers that our national theatre company Teatru Malta has collected. In celebration of World Theatre Day, they released a video featuring some of Malta’s favourite actors, directors and crew members explaining what theatre means to them.
And the answers will remind all theatre lovers why it is they do what they do.
“A space where one goes to embark on a journey.”
“The freedom to experiment, freedom to think, freedom to discuss.”
“It means family and it means discipline. It also means lots of sleepless nights.”
“Discipline, because theatre requires training, it requires effort, persistence, and a great deal of work.”
“Long hours and long nights, but it also gives me great satisfaction.”
“The chance to experiment new things and new characters”
“A beautiful experience that flourishes from a small idea, gradually coming to life before your very eyes.”
“The opportunity to glimpse into the human psyche.”
“We’re like a family; actors and backstage people are a family.”
“The opportunity to create a character that someone will either laugh with or cry with.”
