WATCH: Miracles, Crime And Father Davide Tucci – Malta’s Latest TV ‘Dramedy’ Gets Its First Trailer

Drama has always played a very important role in Maltese TV, and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon. After a six-year absence from the local circuit, popular production company Take2 have unveiled the trailer for their brand new project, Miraklu.

The mini-series, which is set to air later this year (October, as a matter of fact), follows hits Take2 shows like Evan?elisti and De?eduti. As far as Miraklu goes, however, the new show will follow the style of a ‘dramedy’. If you’re confused, the trailer and plot will help you understand just what that means, which is exactly what it says on the tin.

Set in the fictitious town of ?al Saflieni, the new series tells the story of Joey Il-Paps Bonavia. A well-meaning father of five who ends up finding himself in prison, Il-Paps comes back out to quickly realise that he’s jobless and penniless. “Paps soon discovers he needs nothing short of a miracle to get his ruined life back on track,” the synopsis reads. “And by hook or by crook, that is exactly what he’s going to get!”

As the unveiled trailer quickly reveals, Miraklu is set to constantly thread between dramatic plot lines and comically-flawed characters.

At one point, il-Paps can be seen seriously contemplating his inability to maintain his five children and the sorrow that that instills in him while speaking to his dead wife in a cemetery. A couple of seconds later, a couple of burglars can be seen fumbling through a robbery, with one of them remarking, “Ifti minn hemm u ne??i dik il-qa?bec minn wi??ek, qisek tal-ISIS!”

Miraklu features a varied cast, including actors who have worked with Take2 before like Ludwig Farrugia, Doriana Portelli and Carlos Farrugia.

New collaborators, on the other hand, include Naledi Sehlolo, Kurt Magri and the young and very talented Matteo Calleja Tonna and Ileana Cutajar.

And yes, in case you were wondering, that is Davide Tucci playing a priest. Your eyes were definitely not deceiving you. We checked. Multiple times.

Miraklu airs this October on NET TV.
