Earlier this year, the tragic news of 24-year-old Rhys Celeste’s death in a traffic accident in Mosta shocked the Maltese electronic music scene. Known as Microlith, Rhys had a very strong following, and was working on putting out “a substantial release” of songs with Madrid-based imprint Fundamental Records.

The head of Fundamental Records, Alek Stark, said they had arranged a tracklist for an album a mere couple of days before the fatal accident back in February. After speaking to Rhys’ brother a couple of weeks later, they decided to master all the tracks and release it in his honour. “We are honoured to release this work in our label and we will try to give to his fantastic work as much exposure as possible,” Alek said.

Now, the Fundamental Records boss released a teaser of what the album is not only going to sound like, but also look like. The double LP has a photo of Rhys on the sleeve and his eye on the disc, while t-shirts bearing the Microlith logo can also be seen being printed.

Alek Stark had shared short cuts from the upcoming album two months ago, but now that it’s finished, it’s only a matter of time until copies start shipping. “In the next weeks, your music will be the hands of people who really love you,” Alek said.

Loads of people from all over the world instantly reacted to the decision with extremely positive comments, expressing their deepest condolences and their excitement at owning a copy of the 24-year-old genius’ music. They also thanked Alek, who referred to Rhys as his “brother”, for embarking on this project.

The record can be ordered by sending an email to [email protected].
