WATCH: Maltese Biker Shares Moment Speeding Taxi Driver Crashes Seconds After Tailgating And Overtaking Him

Maltese roads have seen their fair share of speeding, overtaking, impromptu road rage and chaotic instances. Yesterday, it was the turn of two of the most debated vehicles on our roads; motorbikes and taxis.

A video which was posted on MaltaMotorcycles, the country’s largest online group for bikers, shows a bike driving down Triq il-Kunsill tal-Ewropa, the main road leading from Marsa to the airport. All of a sudden, a speeding white taxi can be seen whizzing past on the right side of the bike.

“He tailgated me at high speed, cut me up, overtook me and at the last minute decided to turn left,” the user explained to the group. Moments later, the result of that last minute left turn became very apparent; the white Peugeot did not make the turn on time, crashing onto the traffic island, missing an electricity pole by mere millimetres.

“Instant karma,” the biker said. “Enjoy.”

“Us motorcyclists are often bullied on the road by drivers without a care for other road users,” the biker told Lovin Malta. “This driver yesterday passed me at high speed. With barely any warning, he decided to turn left, missed the turn and ran straight into high kerb. Fortunately, he had no passengers. Are these people ever prosecuted for reckless driving? I think we both know the answer to that.”

A couple of hours after appearing online, the video had already received a substantial number of reactions (over 300) and had exceeded 70 shares. Soon enough, dozens of comments started pouring in.

While the video seemed to go down a treat to many drivers (particularly bikers) who had suffered similar experiences at the hands of other drivers on Maltese roads, many also took the opportunity to remark that it was good that a lesson might’ve been taught without anyone having to get hurt.

“Thank God he didn’t hit the lamppost,” one user remarked, while another said that luckily, no one was crossing the road at that moment.

As other users remarked, on the other hand, some drivers have been opting for this side street (Triq il-Gudja) to exit on Dawret il-Gudja and avoid the traffic which has become synonymous with Triq l-Avjazzjoni and the roundabout just outside the airport. The road, which leads to a cemetery, is restricted to 30 km/hr, and its eventual right exit towards the airport is actually illegal.
