Singing competitions like The Voice, X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent are very popular worldwide, and Malta is definitely no exception. There’s now a new show on the BBC roster, All Together Now, airing tomorrow night… and a Maltese singer has made it to the debut episode!

Francesca Galea, who goes by the stage name Chess, will be appearing on the first episode of All Together Now. Currently based in London, Galea told Lovin Malta how she wasn’t even going at first. “I was scouted for the show but at first I wasn’t so sure about it,” she told Lovin Malta. “There are so many auditions to consider in this industry. But my brother convinced me, and I’m now so glad I went!”

All Together Now‘s concept is a rather new one for TV. The show will see singers and groups take the stage to perform in front of ‘The 100’. This is a group of literally 100 judges from a wide variety of backgrounds; there’s a school teacher, a cabaret host, a drag queen, a rapper, a former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, West End veterans… and former Spice Girl Geri Horner. The show will be hosted by popular stand-up comedian Rob Beckett.

“I have been a major Spice Girls fan since I was just five years old, so I could barely contain myself knowing that Geri was about to watch me perform,” Chess told Lovin Malta of the awesome experience. “I just couldn’t believe my luck!”

There will be no audience vote for the show, with winners instead being rated according to participation from the 100. Put simply, as the name implies, it’s all about how many of the 100 judges stand up and join in on the singers’ performance. If a singer is joined by 86 judges, then that performer gets 86 points out of the potential 100.

And while we’re going to have to wait until tomorrow to see how Chess’ performance went, a quote on her website might just have the perfect teaser.

“I loved your performance, it was strong and sassy and you have a great voice!”

“All the auditions were in London, but I had to go up to Manchester to film and rehearse a few times,” Chess told Lovin Malta. “The whole thing was so organised and everyone was so lovely and welcoming and friendly. I was treated really well by the production team and it was nothing but a super-positive experience.”

Both celebrities featuring in the show agreed that All Together Now has a more laid-back attitude than other talent shows. “It’s just happy and positive – it’s not a big stress!” host Rob Beckett said.

Of course, the winner is still in the chance of winning a cool £50,000 prize.

All Together Now airs on BBC1 tomorrow at 8pm, so stay tuned. In the meantime, good luck Chess!
