WATCH: Marsascala Chapel Given An Overdue Facelift And We’re Totally Digging It

Churches in Malta are a very big deal. We literally have one in every corner, but sadly we’re not always giving them the TLC they so desperately need and deserve.

Thankfully one pretty church has been saved from further damaged. Marsascala’s old parish church has just been restored to its former glory, and we’re loving what it looks like now.

The church façade was seriously depleting, the external walls were missing slabs of stone, the walls were a proper sorry state, it was all severely damaged by pollution and the elements were really not being kind to the building in general.

The church steeples were reconstructed using existing stone voussoirs, however parts of the lower façade had to be replaced due to the damage they withstood throughout the years.

Minister for Justice, Culture and Local Government Owen Bonnici said “Our localities are full of significant sites and monuments and we are dedicated to preserve them.”

The church door was also in a really bad state. Since the wood was rotten, most of it had to be replaced with new bits, but it’s ok. The church looks really beautiful now, so it was totally worth the eight months of work.
