The first-ever Mvintage Woman of the Year award shed a bright light on the impact women have on various aspects of Maltese society, from sports to the arts, to philanthropy, business and even health sectors. Seven women were nominated, and after a whopping 11,000 votes were cast, Maria Formosa, Executive Secretary for ALS Malta was crowned the winner.

LovinMalta managed to snap comments and reactions from some of the nominees, each of whom expressed how different women inspire them each day. “It is a beautiful thing to have support from people,” Formosa stated after being announced as the winner.

The Mvintage Woman of the Year Award was conceived to celebrate female empowerment while also encouraging women to support one another. Mvintage founder Krystle Penza expressed how the award itself perfectly represents the female community, and how we should always hold each other up, something our winner Maria certainly took note of as she opted to share the glory of her award with another nominee, Puttinu Cares President Angele Cuschieri.

LGBT+ activist Gabi Calleja, businesswoman Helga Ellul, women’s rights activist Lara Dimitrijevic, actress and Jays of Sunshine founder Maxine Attard, and social media influencer Shelley Caruana were also shortlisted for Woman of the Year. Dr Lydia Abela, the wife of the Prime Minister, was a special guest for the night.
